The purpose of the present book is to expound the theological and ethical affirmations of these co-pioneers. It has been written in the conviction that the Old Testament prophets' understanding of man's existence in community under God is as lively a possibility for us today as it was for Israel in the eighth century B.C. Many of the forms of our institutional and material environment have changed, but the basic alternatives open to us for understanding and accepting our place in the universe have not. To this extent Amos and Isaiah are our contemporaries. - Preface.
