Many of the things that are most worth possessing are not easy to obtain. So it is with the understanding of the Epistle to the Hebrews. This New Testament treatise reveals more fully than any other book in the Bible the present high-priestly ministry of the Man in the glory, our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a glorious, instructive, and empowering revelation. However, strict application of the mind, coupled with the guidance of the Spirit and the spiritual discernment that are the indispensable requisites of all who would understand the Scriptures, is demanded of those who would discover for themselves the treasures that this letter contains. He who is willing to study diligently will find this exposition helpful in showing the way to some of the richest truths of Holy Writ. The Epistle to the Hebrews is one of the most important books of the New Testament in that it contains some of the chief doctrines of the Christian faith, and is, as well, a book of infinite logic and great beauty. To read it is to breathe the atmosphere of heaven itself. To study it is to partake of strong spiritual meat. To abide in its teachings is to be led from immaturity to maturity in the knowledge of Christian truth and of Christ Himself. It is to "go on unto perfection." The theme of the Epistle to the Hebrews, the only book of the New Testament in which our Lord is presented in His high priestly office, is the supreme glory of Christ, the Son of God and Son of man. In this letter we see Him, not so much IN us as an abiding presence, but FOR us at the Father’s right hand, interceding in our behalf. First and last, however, "we see Jesus," and our view of Him is as exalted above all and yet wonderfully near. This commentary first appeared serially in "Our Hope" magazine over a period of nearly five years. Numerous requests for its publication in permanent form persuaded the author to revise the studies somewhat and issue this volume.
